<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a shift operation feeling; and to reduce the size of a transmission mechanism, in a shift operation device of an outboard engine. <P>SOLUTION: This shift operation device of the outboard engine has an operation cable C for transmitting operation force applied to an operation handle, a shift rod for switching a shift position of a forward-backward switching device, a driving arm 72 integrally rotatably connected to the shift rod, and the transmission mechanism 60 connected to the operation cable C, and transmitting the operation force to the driving arm 72.
