The support wall (18) of the brake drum (12) outer peripheral wall (17) is firmly coupled to a vehicle part (8, 11) to be braked. It has at least one brake band (14) looped round the peripheral wall and clampable against a brake face (15) on the peripheral wall and held free of the same. The brake drum has an additional wall section(s), spaced from the support wall, which bounds a sealed chamber (22) for a coolant, together with the peripheral and support walls. ADVANTAGE - Increased heat storage and transfer capacity and braking performance.
