A method for evaluating the ultraviolet protection effect of a measurement sample comprises a first step of measuring the variation with time of the spectral transmission spectrum of the measurement sample in a predetermined wavelength region at predetermined wavelength intervals by applying light of the light source including ultraviolet radiation under a preset light application condition, a second step for setting a correlation between the light application time and the erythema effect size in a predetermined unit time according to the measured variation with time of the spectral transmission spectrum, and a third step of calculating an in-vitro SPF prediction value of the measurement sample from the time until the time-integrated cumulative erythema effect size reaches 1 MED from the set correlation.
