The present invention relates to a mobile terminal which prevent others from properly recognizing information displayed in an operation screen of the mobile terminal by generating a predetermined visual effect on the operation screen, and a control method thereof. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the mobile terminal comprises: a memory storing at least one application program; a display unit for displaying an operation screen of the application program; and a control unit for hiding at least any one area or an object displayed in the operation screen when accessing a privacy mode.
