PURPOSE:To obtain a refractory, useful as a lining for various kinds of furnace equipment/used in the steel industry and excellent in corrosion, slag infiltration, heat spalling resistance and high-temperature strength. CONSTITUTION:High-temperature strength is improved by forming >=30% combined carbon structure of a coarse granular mosaic structure in a bonded structure of a refractory. The coarse granular mosaic structure is a structure in which formed carbon hexagonal net planes form anisotropic units oriented in small regions and the units are irregularly aggregated. The dimensions of the anisotropic units are >=1mum and the structure has a strong binding power. Thermoplastic pitch and a novolak type phenolic resin which is a thermoplastic resin are used in combination as a binder for the refractory so as to obtain the coarse granular mosaic structure and burning is carried out at >=800 deg.C temperature. |
