PURPOSE:To provide a porous carbon material having high strength, hardly causing blocking even when used as a filter for filtering a fluid and usable even as the filler of a gradient functional material. CONSTITUTION:Plural groups of granules of unmeltable phenol resin carbonizable by heating and surface-coated with meltable phenol resin carbonizable by heating are prepd. so that the groups are made different from each other in average diameter. The groups are separately and stepwise filled into a mold in one direction, molded, cured and carbonized by heating to obtain a porous carbon material consisting of plural porous carbon layers having average pore diameters stepwise varied in one direction and not joined to each other with an adhesive. |
