<p>This invention is directed to the modification of metabolism in photosynthetic organisms. Photosynthetic organisms have been successfully transformed with nucleic acid encoding an unregulated pyrophosphate:fructose 6-phosphate 1 phosphotransferase (PFP) protein capable of expressing a PFP protein which modifies metabolism without being regulated by the host organism. Transgenic plants and seeds have been produced which yield modified carbohydrate, oil, fiber, sugar content as a result of alteration of glycolysis.</p> |
