PURPOSE: A reciprocating internal combustion engine is provided to compactly arrange many cylinders and to require a minimum structural space at the same time. CONSTITUTION: For compactly arranging many cylinders(21-28), the reciprocating internal combustion engine has a third cylinder line(R3) between two cylinder lines(R1,R2) mutually placed by a V shape and a fourth line(R4) placed in the outside of a V shaped space that is formed between the cylinder lines(R1,R2). A third and fourth lines(R3,R4) are also mutually placed by the V shape and all cylinders(Z1-Z8) of the internal combustion engine work to one common crank shaft(4). Therefore, the internal combustion engine has many cylinders placed along two lines and making an angle each other.
