Apparatus and method of measuring breast characteristics

The volume of a breast is determined by applying a receptacle (10) of known volume, eg one of a series having different volumes, to the breast and checking for a comfortable supportive fit. A pair of such receptacles may be combined with a girth-measuring strap (20), the latter has indica (21) providing a clearly visible indication of girth size and may comprise two sections resiliently biassed togther, alignment of a window in one section with a mark on the other indicating the strap is under a predetermined tension suitable for reading the indica (21). A further aspect of this invention measures the cup volume of a brassiere by placing the latter over a support and inflating a bladder to fill the cup, inflation volume or pressure being measured. The invention may be used to obtain the best fitting brassiere for a wearer.
