PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for improving flame retardant property of a flame retardant resin composition containing a thermoplastic resin, preferably a polyolefin resin, magnesium hydroxide particles and a silicone compound, without the reduction of the mechanical characteristics and processability of the resin composition. SOLUTION: This polyolefin resin composition is provided by incorporating composite magnesium hydroxide particles of which surfaces are directly covered with 0.3 to 4.5 wt.% silicone compound as SiO<SB>2</SB>based on the magnesium hydroxide particles and having 0.2 to 10μm mean secondary particle diameter measured by a laser diffraction method, in the polyolefin resin.
