Disclosed is a torque limiter, especially for a surgical screwdriver, comprising an outer sleeve (10) whose inner wall is provided with at least one circumferential groove (12) and a plurality of axially parallel recesses (14), one or several elastic rings (16) that is/are inserted into the groove/s (12), a roller cage (20) which is accommodated by the outer sleeve (10) and is equipped with a number of roller receptacles (18) corresponding to the number of recesses (14), a plurality of rollers (22) that are inserted into the roller receptacles (18), an inner sleeve (24) which is accommodated by the roller cage (20) and whose outer wall is fitted with a number of axially parallel, V-shaped notches (26) corresponding to the number of roller receptacles (18), and means for limiting the relative rotation between the roller cage (20) and the outer sleeve (10) between a first position, which is taken when the outer sleeve (10) is rotated in the twisting direction and in which the means cause torque to be transmitted while the rollers (22) are flush with the recesses (14), leave the notches (26) in the inner sleeve (26), and enter the recesses (14) in the outer sleeve (10) so as to displace the elastic ring/s (16) when the maximum torque that is to be transmitted has been reached, and a second position, which is taken when the outer sleeve (10) is rotated in the releasing direction and in which the rollers (22) accommodated by the notches (26) in the inner sleeve (24) are in a position that is offset relative to the recesses (14) in the outer sleeve (10). |
