<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably form an image of satisfactory image quality by restraining noise caused by charges accumulated on a toner carrier. <P>SOLUTION: Electrodes 48K and so on are disposed on the end faces of each developing device 4K and so on. The upstream end of the electrode 48K in the rotating direction D3 of the developing unit extends to the location of its contact with a main body side fixing electrode 150, and its downstream end extends to a location near the downstream end of the developing device. When the developing unit is rotated from the time t0 when the developing device 4K is in a developing location facing a photoreceptor 22, the electrode 48K of the developing device 4K moves away from the fixed electrode 150 (time t=t1). Immediately after that, the electrode 48M of the subsequent developing device 4M comes into contact with the fixed electrode 150 (time t=t2).
