PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new linear light source device which can be used instead of a cold cathode tube. SOLUTION: The linear light source device is equipped with: a light transmission member 120 equipped with a main body part 130 molded of resin like a pillar having nearly uniform cross section and having predetermined length, and a first end 121 and a second end 122 formed at both ends of the main body part 130; and an LED light emitting element 200 arranged to be opposed to at least either the first end 121 or the second end 122. A plurality of recessed parts 131 or projecting parts 132 are formed in a longitudinal direction on the light transmission member 120, and extend in the lateral direction of a band-shaped area and present linear shape in the lateral direction of the band-shaped area, whereby light made incident on the end of the main body part 130 from the LED light emitting element 200 is emitted from an area opposed to a range where the recessed pats 131 or the projecting parts 132 are formed on the peripheral surface of the main body part 130 in the longitudinal direction of the main body part 130.
