ASPARTYL PROTEASE INHIBITOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new aspartyl protease inhibitor. SOLUTION: A new class of sulfonamides which are aspartyl protease inhibitors is provided. In one embodiment, a new class of HIV aspartyl protease inhibitors characterized by specific structural and physicochemical features is provided. A pharmaceutical composition containing these compounds is also provided. The compound and the pharmaceutical composition are particularly sufficiently suitable for inhibiting HIV-1 and HIV-2 protease activities and consequently may be advantageously used as anti-viral agents against the HIV-1 and HIV-2 viruses. A method for inhibiting the activity of HIV aspartyl protease using the compound and a method for screening compounds for anti-HIV activity are also provided. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
