A leak monitoring and emergency venting apparatus for a double-walled tank includes a pipe for connecting a space between the walls of the tank to the atmosphere, and a floater in fluid communication with the interior of the pi pe for monitoring any leakage of fluid from the walls of the tank. If the fluid lev el in the space between the walls of the tank rises above a predetermined level, the floater is discharged from the pipe allowing venting of the space to the atmosphere.
