PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pedestrian movement estimation method and an estimation device which can determine that a walking pedestrian stops, especially suddenly stops at an early stage as possible.SOLUTION: In a pedestrian movement estimation method, a walking pedestrian is detected from an image captured by a camera 1 in accordance with following knowledge: a human can stop (suddenly stop) anytime if a walking speed is a specified speed (for example, 0.8 m/s) or less; and a pedestrian assumes a posture in which his/her head is largely lowered when the pedestrian suddenly stops. The pedestrian is determined to stop suddenly when the detected walking speed of the pedestrian is the specified speed (for example, 0.8 m/s) or less and a lowered amount A of the pedestrian's head is a specified amount (for example, 50 mm) or more. A travel distance of the pedestrian in a walking direction from a position where the pedestrian is determined to stop suddenly can be estimated to be at most 50 cm or so.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2 |
