PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively and efficiently subject an org. compd. to oxidizing treatment by allowing a halophilic methane assimilating bacterium Methylomicrobium NI strain to act on the org. compd. in an aq. medium containing salt in specific concn. SOLUTION: When a sea area or an area containing salt in the same degree as seawater is contaminated with an org. compd. such as trichloroethylene, in performing bio-remediation due to methane metabolizing bacteria, a halophilic methane assimilating bacterium Methylomicrobium NI strain is allowed to act on an aq. medium with a salt concn. of 2-6wt.%. By this constitution, if the halophilic methane assimilating bacterium Methylomicrobium NI strain is allowed to especially act on a halogen-containing org. compd. among. org. compds, halogen is dissociated by oxidation and an area contaminated with an organohalogen compd. can be purified. |
