PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for hydrolyzing methyl acetate using a reactor with a fixed catalyst layer and separating acetic acid and methanol are provided which can reutilize methyl acetate that has been hitherto discarded as useless waste, improve hydrolysis efficiency and remarkably reduce investment cost and energy consumption. CONSTITUTION: The hydrolyzing method of methyl acetate comprises the steps of introducing methyl acetate or methyl mixtures and water at the same time into a condensate line at the upper part of a reactor (1) at 50 to 80°C and preparing a reaction mixture by liquid reaction in the reactor filled with a strong acid cation exchange resin catalyst; condensing the reaction mixture at a methylacetate separation tower (2), separating methylacetate at a condenser (3) and discharging acetic acid and methanol as a reaction product with the remaining water from the separation tower; and transferring mixtures from the separator to an acetic acid recovering tower (7) and separating acetic acid and methanol. The apparatus comprises a reactor, a separation tower and an acetic acid recovering tower, wherein a condenser and a condensate line connected to a pump (4) are installed between the reactor and the separation, a pump (6) between the separation tower and the acetic acid recovering tower, a reboiler (5) at the separation tower, a methanol storing tank (C) and an acetic storing tank (D) are connected to the acetic recovering tower. |
