<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary transmission apparatus capable of achieving optical signal transmission in a rotary shaft having an especially large diameter and capable of performing positioning at any position along the rotary shaft. <P>SOLUTION: The rotary transmission apparatus includes a plurality of first segmental tubular portions 3 for guiding light and the first tubular portions 3 are disposed so as to form a first tubular device 18. The rotary transmission apparatus has at least one first transmitter 5 for generating a first optical signal and at least one first receiver 11 for receiving the first optical signal.
