PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide TN and STN displays each having short response time and favorable steepness at low temperatures. SOLUTION: The objective nematic liquid crystal mixture comprises at least one compound of the general formula I and at least one compound of the general formula II (R1, R2 and R2x are each an optionally fluorinated 12C alkyl, alkoxy, alkenyl or alkenyloxy, wherein one or two nonadjoining CH2 group(s) may be substituted with O, CH=CH, CO, OCO or COO so that O atoms are not directly bound to each other; and Y is F, Cl, OCF3, OCHF2 or OCHFCF3). The other objective liquid crystal displays including the above liquid crystal mixture are also provided.
