An apparatus and a method for sensing the mounting/demounting of consumables in an imaging apparatus are provided to allow a user to know accurate use particulars of the consumables by always confirming whether the consumables are changed irrespective of the power of a printing device and informing the confirmed information to the user. A latch unit(100) has a terminal for detecting the mounting/demounting of consumables(105), a terminal for informing whether the consumables(105) are mounted/demounted, a reset terminal, and a power terminal. If the consumables(105) are mounted/demounted from an imaging apparatus, the latch unit(100) maintains the mounted/demounted information. When the power of the imaging apparatus is turned off, an auxiliary power device(120) supplies power to the latch unit(100).
