PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device capable of improving safety upon a vehicle impact.SOLUTION: Movement of an upper column 17 in an axial direction X with respect to a lower column causes a steering column 4 to expand and contract in the axial direction X. A lock member 63 moves between an abutment position where the lock member abuts a housing 45 moving in the axial direction X in unison with the upper column 17, and a separation position where the lock member is spaced apart from the housing 45. Upon a vehicle collision occurring while a locking/unlocking mechanism 7 locks the movement of the upper column 17 in the axial direction, the lock member 63 is dragged by the housing 45 to a predetermined position, permitting the movement of the housing 45, and then, digs into the housing 45 at the predetermined position, prohibiting the movement of the housing 45. After the lock member 63 digs into the housing 45, an impact absorption mechanism absorbs impact caused by the vehicle collision.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7 |
