PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing plate that is thin and shows a high contrast ratio.SOLUTION: A long-sized polarizing plate includes: a long-sized polarizer having a transmission axis in a longer direction; and a long-sized first protective layer disposed on one side of the polarizer and having a transmission axis in a longer direction. A first protective layer has the function of dividing incident light into two polarization components perpendicular to each other, transmitting one of the polarization components, and reflecting the other polarization component. The polarizer and the first protective layer are laminated so that longer directions coincide, and the direction of the transmission axis of the polarizer and the direction of the transmission axis of the first protective layer are substantially parallel to each other. |
