The method involves applying voltage (U) to terminals of an organic LED during a supply duration (ton) that is less than a preset refresh period (Tr) having rest period (toff). Negative voltage is applied to the terminals of the LED during a part of the rest period, where the negative voltage is between minus 3 and minus 10 voltages. The negative voltage is followed by application of zero voltage at the terminals of the diode during the rest period.
