PURPOSE:To automatically switch material roll film of a packaging machine, and improve the replenishing work of the material roll for the packaging machine, which has a pair of wound material rolls, and performs a continuous packaging by pulling out and transferring film from one of the material rolls. CONSTITUTION:A tension sensor roller 62 with which film F comes into contact is provided, and when the tension of the film F becomes zero, the final end of the film F and a starting end 65 of film F' are joined by a film connecting mechanism 59. Also, an ultrasonic sensor 64, which detects the thicknesses of the films F, F' of respective material rolls R, R', is provided at the leading end of a turning arm 63. By this method, when the remaining quantity of the film F becomes a specified quantity or lower, the turning arm 63 rotates, and the ultrasonic sensor 64 detects the remaining quantity of the film F' of the material roll R'. At this time, if the remaining quantity of the film F' is also at a specified quantity or lower, the transfer of the film F is immediately stopped to prevent both material rolls R, R' from becoming empty.
