PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of roll marks due to excessive roll crown. CONSTITUTION:A roll barrel 4 is inflected so that the diameter is made smaller gradually from one end toward the other end in the max. allowance of shift that is determined from the generation of the roll marks. The main crown control region 5 which is applied to a specified width is set in the middle part of the roll barrel and the end-part sides are taken as assistant crown control regions 6, 7 whose controlled variables are small. The profiles of the assistant crown control regions 6, 7 are made into a gentle inflectional curve. The profile of the main crown control region 5 is totally taken as a sharp inflectional curve, only the middle region part 8 is made gentle and a convex curve is provided at one end of the middle region part 8.
