PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new polycondensation catalyst other than an antimony compound, a polyester produced by using it, and a process for producing a polyester. SOLUTION: In producing a polyester, a polycondensation catalyst is used which comprises at least one compound selected from aluminum and its compounds, and at least one compound selected from the group consisting of phosphinic acid compounds, phosphine oxide compounds, phosphonous acid compounds, phosphinous acid compounds and phosphine compounds.
