Discloses the use of an aryl sulphonate compound such as suramin, for the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment or prophylaxis of a pathological condition or event of the systemic vasculature resulting from the production of reactive oxygen species in a subject, wherein the aryl sulphonate inhibits an extracellularly exposed form of a Nox4 component of an NADPH oxidise.
