<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device and an optical pickup used for it in which, to two or more kinds of the optical disks different in substrate thickness, aberration produced due to the difference in the thickness of the disk substrate is removed with simple configuration without a mechanical switching mechanism and recording or reproducing a signal is made possible. <P>SOLUTION: Laser beam discharged from a first light-emitting element is made into a parallel beam through a collimate lens, and is condensed on the high-density disk thin in the disk substrate through an objective lens via a beam combining and splitting element. Because the laser beam discharged from a second light-emitting element is injected into the objective lens as a diverging beam via the beam combining and splitting element and is condensed on the disk thick in the disk substrate with a conventional method, the spherical aberration due to the difference in the disk thickness is corrected. A signal processing circuit is also switched based on a discrimination result by the discrimination means for the kinds of the disks. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
