The invention relates to an airbag device 30 for mounting within a vehicle having at least one seat comprising a seat back frame 44. The airbag device comprising a side airbag 32 for mounting to the seat back frame, inflator means 36 for inflating the side airbag in the event of a side vehicle impact, and an airbag housing 46 within which the airbag and the inflator means are mounted. The inflator means is provided with an integral mounting boss 36b that is configured to align the inflator means, airbag and the housing along an axis of symmetry (X-X) of the device so that the airbag device can be mounted on either the left side or the right side of the vehicle. The airbag housing may comprise a clamshell arrangement with first and second side hinges 48 which allow a housing mouth to open upon inflation of the airbag. |
