ORGANIC ELECTROLUMINESCENCE ELEMENT, DISPLAY, AND ILLUMINATION DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescence element having an excellent power efficiency and excellent driving resistance, and to provide a display and an illumination device. SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescence element includes a luminescent layer and an electronic transport layer composed of an organic compound between opposing positive and negative electrodes. A thin layer with the thickness of not more than 3 nm is formed of only metal or metal salt including elements with the work function of not more than 2.9 eV, and is formed in an area interposed between the luminescent layer and the negative electrode and also at a position which contacts neither the luminescent layer nor the negative electrode.
