PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric discharge lamp which emits UV-rays including a wavelength range equal to or shorter than 220 nm, and suppresses the arising of a halogenide from an insulating conductor lead around at the outside of a tube. SOLUTION: The electric discharge lamp hermetically contains a material that emits light in a wavelength range of equal to or shorter than 220 nm, and an insulating conductor sheathed with an insulator made of a nonhalogenic substance is used as an insulating lead wire lead around at the outside of the tube for the electric discharge lamp. When the insulator is a polymer compound having a principal chain containing an aromatic ring and/or a complex ring, the electric discharge lamp offers an improved resistance against deterioration.
