PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary damper capable of showing a constant damper function and a variable damper function, simplifying a structure by making a seal member unnecessary, improving productivity, and reducing size and weight. SOLUTION: A rotary damper 1 includes a housing 2 having a receiving space S therein, a slide receiving section 6 provided on an inner periphery forming the receiving space S of the housing 2 and formed along the circumferential direction of the inner periphery, a shaft member 3 pivotally received inside the slide receiving section 6 of the receiving space S, and a blade section provided at a side peripheral section of the shaft member 3 and in contact with the slide receiving section 6 so as to be slidable in the circumferential direction of the receiving space S. The shaft member 3 is provided with an engagement section 3a engaged with a pivoting member for pivoting the shaft member 3 relative to the housing 2.
