PURPOSE:To obtain 2C hydrocarbons by the dimerization of methane continuously for a long period of time, in a high selectivity and a high yield, without providing a separate process for the regeneration of a used catalyst. CONSTITUTION:In a process of dimerizing methane by using a metal/metal oxide type catalyst to produce 2C hydrocarbons like ethane, ethylene, etc., which is characterized by feeding a mixed gas of methane or a methane containing gas with oxygen or an oxygen containing gas into a reaction chamber in which the metal/metal oxide type catalyst is filled and melted. It is possible to obtain 2C hydrocarbons in a high yield while suppressing the production of COX, by maintaining a concentration of the air by about 5-15% in the methane as a raw material. |
