<p>A transmission system for transforming rotary motion into unidirectional linear motion. The transmission system includes first and second shafts that are parallel to one another, each defining parallel, primary axes of rotation. The transmission system further includes a first drive unit for rotation about the first shaft and a second drive unit for rotation about the second shaft and their respective primary axes of rotation. Each drive unit has three weights rotatively coupled thereto, each weight rotating about a corresponding parallel axis of rotation that is parallel to their respective shaft's axis of rotation. As the drive units rotate, the weights also rotate such that they are fully extended along a first direction in order to provide maximum thrust in that first direction, and the weights are minimally extended in the opposite direction. The transmission is also configured such that the direction of linear propulsion may be changed.</p> |
