PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device which enable short pieces to be correctly processed, gathered or accumulated after cutting off, or in some cases to be arranged and sorted depending on the size. SOLUTION: A bar material 5 placed on a machine table 3 is pinched with a clamp vise and cut into piece by piece with a cut-off machine. After cutting off, a cut off piece 14 is separated from the cutting surface along feeding direction by the clamp vise, turned around cross axis against the feeding direction, and held horizontally with the piece section cut immediately before downward. Then the piece is placed on a tray 21 through a vertical lowering motion by the clamp vise.
