<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which is improved in the shape of a transfer member relative to an image carrier, so that the leakage of a current to the outside of an image is restrained with simple constitution for easy constant-current control and an excellent transfer image is obtained, and which supplies charge stable to environmental variation and the conditional variation of the kind of paper or the like to obtain a stable image without damaging an image memory and the image carrier. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: the transfer member coming into contact with the image carrier directly or through a body to be transferred, having a shaft parallel with the driving shaft of the image carrier and forming a contact area different in the driving shaft direction of the image carrier according to a rotational angle position around the shaft; a driving means for rotating and stopping the transfer member at an optional set position; and a control means for controlling the driving means.
