PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sharp focusing schlieren system, having fewer light uneveness in an irradiation plane and lesser loss of the quantity of light than conventional systems and being capable of optically efficiently acquiring images of density gradients of any cross section perpendicular with respect to the optical axis. SOLUTION: A kaleidoscope-like reflecting mirror is installed. The reflecting mirror has a square shape so as to be easily manufactured and is capable of reducing light irregularities, and the loss of the quantity of light by the total reflection and uniform mixture of light rays through inside the mirror. By using a condenser lens, even if the cross-sectional area of the exit of the reflection mirror is smaller than the required irradiation plane, the area of irradiation is adjustable.
