An LCD device and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to flatten an optical compensation film and dispose the optical compensation film with a color filter array in the lower side of a TFT array, thereby preventing a surface opposite to column spacers from being pressed by the column spacers. First and second substrates(500,400) are opposite to each other. A color filter array(502a,502b) is formed on the first substrate. An optical compensation leveling layer(503) is formed in the front of the first substrate including the color filter array. The upper surface of the optical compensation leveling layer is flat. A TFT(Thin Film Transistor) array is formed in the upper part of the optical compensation leveling layer. A plurality of column spacers(408,410) is formed on the second substrate. A liquid crystal layer(600) is formed between the first and second substrates.
