<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active matrix type display device capable of appropriately controlling a gate line (or data). <P>SOLUTION: When selecting the gate line 6 or the data line 7 (in the embodiment, the gate line 6), a decoder (gate selection decoder 13) is used. Accordingly, random access to the gate line 6 is permitted.
