<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight device for a liquid crystal module preventing a backlash due to shaking of the lamp by using only a small lamp holder without adding extra parts. <P>SOLUTION: The backlight device includes a lamp 30, a lamp holder 50 and a lamp cover 70. The lamp holder 50 has a lamp holding portion 52 shorter than a communicating tube portion 32 of the lamp 30. A pair of opposing planes 82 formed by top planes of a pair of ribs 80 are provided on the lamp cover 70. A movement range of the communicating tube portion 32 in its axis direction is regulated by bring the pair of opposing surfaces 82 into contact with end portions of parallel tube portions 31 and 31 of the lamp 30.
