Disclosed herein are compounds and related compositions for the treatment of viral infection, including RNA viral infection, and compounds that can modulate the RIG-I pathway in vertebrate cells, including compounds that can activate the RIG-I pathway.

A pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound having a structure wherein R1 is selected from H, alkyl, or hydroxyl; R2 is selected from H or CF3; R3 is alkylsulfonyl; R4 is selected from H or lower alkyl; at least one R6 group is selected from CF3 or CO2R4; n is 0, 1, 2, or 3; p is 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5; and optionally, when p is 2 or more, at least one additional R6 group is selected from H, lower alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, heteroalkyl, heteroaryl, cyclic heteroalkyl, NH2, OH, CN, NO2, OCF3, CF3, Br, Cl, F, alkylcarbonyl, or alkylsulfonyl.
