PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet conveying device which eliminates erroneous detection for the occurrence of double feeding and prevents the conveyance of a sheet having a stuck matter or an air layer from being stopped upon the conveyance of the sheet having the stuck matter such as a tag.SOLUTION: A sheet conveying device includes: a paper feeding rotating body; a separation conveying part for separating one side sheet, of sheets which are doubly fed by the paper feeding rotating body; a sheet detection part for performing detection of presence or absence of a sheet on a prescribed position and detection of double feeding of sheets; and a control part which recognizes arrival of a sheet to the prescribed position and recognizes an output level of the sheet detection part. Therein, the control part, when an output level of the sheet detection part gets to a value in the range of double feeding, conveys the sheet in the inverse direction and, thereafter, re-conveys the sheet toward the normal direction and, when a time difference between a first time from the first time arrival of the sheet to the prescribed position into the double feeding range to a second time from the second time arrival of the sheet to the prescribed position into the double feeding range exceeds an allowable range, it is judged that the double feeding occurs. |
