A method, server and system for optimizing the delivery of email messages is provided. In accordance with one embodiment, the method comprises: receiving an email message containing at least two alternative versions of content, ea ch version being in a different format; obtaining a reduced email message from the received email message, the reduced email message containing fewer versions than the received email message; and sending the reduced email message to the mobile communication device.
