PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner, which approximately equalizes the beam diameter in the main scanning direction and that in the subscanning direction of exposure distribution to each other regardless of reduction of the beam diameter of the light source of an optical scanner and suppresses the reciprocity law, to reduce the electrostatic latent image and to provide an image forming device, which approximately makes the vertical line width and the horizontal line width of the electrostatic latent image equalizes on a scanned face to output an image having high resolution. SOLUTION: The optical scanner is provided with a light source 11, which is modulated and driven pulsatingly, a deflector 2 for scanning of a luminous flux from the light source 11, a scanning image-forming element 3 which converges the scanned luminous flux on a scanned face 9, and an image-forming lens 14 which leads the luminous flux from the light source 11 to the deflector 2, and the light source 11 is a semiconductor laser, or which the oscillation wavelengthλis >380 nm and <670 nm, and a static beam, diameterωm in the main scanning direction on the scanned face 9 is smaller than a still beam diameterωs in the subscanning direction.
