<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb structure causing no crack on cell walls separating cells of the honeycomb structure when encased and used in a casing. <P>SOLUTION: This honeycomb structure comprises one or multiple columnar honeycomb-like ceramic members wherein cells with rectangular or nearly rectangular sectional shape perpendicular in the longitudinal direction are parallel arranged in the longitudinal direction with cell walls between them. Seal material layers are formed on the outer circumferential part of the honeycomb structure; in the section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the honeycomb-like ceramic members, among cell walls, the cell walls continuously formed from the outer circumferential side of the honeycomb structure toward the inside of the honeycomb structure form a straight line. The line is composed to form an angle of 55-90° with a tangential line at a crossing point with an outer edge of the honeycomb-like ceramic members constituting the outer circumferential part of he honeycomb structure. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
