The engine (1) has an engine block (2) containing combustion chambers (3), and a fresh-air apparatus (5) supplying fresh air to the chambers. An exhaust-emission system (10) removes the exhaust gas from the chambers. An exhaust-gas recirculation system (15) e.g. filter device having a metallic filter body, recirculates exhaust gas from the exhaust-emission system to the fresh-air apparatus. A purification system (29) removes liquid or solid particles from the recirculating exhaust gas. The purification system is arranged upstream from a charging device arranged in the fresh-air apparatus. |
