A scanning order setting portion (24) controls an address output portion (26) such that the scanning signal lines are selected in such an order, and also controls digital image signals DV outputted by output frame memory (22). In this case, the number of changes in potential for video signal lines can be reduced by the number of rows selected at the same time, resulting in reduced power consumption for driving the video signal lines.

A display device displaying an image by a plurality of pixel forming portions arranged along a plurality of video signal lines that transmit a plurality of video signals and plurality of scanning signal lines crossing the plurality of video signal lines, the display device comprising: a switching device at each of the plurality of pixel forming portions; a video signal line drive circuit that drives the plurality of video signal lines based on image signals representing the image; a scanning order determining circuit that determines an order of selecting the plurality of scanning signal lines based on the image signals to reduce a total amount of change in potential of the plurality of video signal lines, such that at least two of the plurality of scanning signal lines that are equal at each of the plurality of video signal lines in terms of a potential applied to the respective video signal line are selected at a same time; and a scanning signal line drive circuit that selectively drives the plurality of scanning signal lines in the order determined by the scanning order determining circuit, wherein, when an amount of the plurality of scanning signal lines being equal at each of the plurality of video signal lines in terms of the potential applied to the video signal lines exceeds a threshold, the scanning order determining circuit determines the order of selecting the scanning signal lines such that a same amount of the plurality of scanning signal lines as the threshold are selected at a same time.
