PURPOSE: An encoder system is provided to perform an encoder function through a rim portion, at whose wheel a lattice or a light absorbent is attached, without having appropriate rotary lattice. CONSTITUTION: An encoder system comprises a wheel(10) which has lattices(15) formed at an edge portion. The direction of the lattices(15) are disposed so as to be in parallel with an axis direction of the wheel(10). The wheel(10) is attached at a driving shaft(12) of a motor. A light emitting element(13) is installed at an outer top of a lattice surface so as to irradiate a ray of light on the lattice surface. A light receiving element(14) is installed in the lattice surface so as to detect an incident ray of light.
