PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To rapidly perform positioning by a GPS receiver even if it is moved overseas from Japan. SOLUTION: A flash ROM 20 of the GPS receiver is used to store country information. When country information is newly stored, a CPU 14 causes a GPS module 12 to execute a cold boot by transmitting a cold boot command thereto. Based on the country information, the CPU 14 provides the module 12 with a coordinate system command specific to the country. A time-out period can be removed by immediately executing the cold boot without using positional information acquired last.
